Dear Weare

I could have added an e on that dear, but I refrained. 😉

I LOVE this town! I don’t know many people yet, but you have the coolest history here. I am beside myself trying to decide how best to handle that. I could use direction.

I grew up in a smaller town in NY, where I knew everyone in town. I’m not trying to know everyone here, but I would love to know as many as possible. I’m as middle of the road as possible on almost everything, so I usually get along well with others.

I’ve created a few things online specifically for this town, and a few others for the whole state of New Hampshire. I try to at least keep my scope limited to NH because I feel the federation of states in the US is in pretty rough condition. I won’t get in to specifics here, but am always glad to discuss my opinions.

One of the projects is online at WEARENH.org, and it’s designed to be a model for other communities to find inspiration from. I feel it’s important to protect and promote the history of communities, and strengthen that with unity.

I bought the old Lanctot homestead back in March 2021. Prior to that, I was living in a camper and traveling around the country (working remotely). I sold my house in NY after my daughter moved out, and downsized to a minimalist lifestyle as a nomad. This was wonderful, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone.

Once I started to see how serious the problems around the world were getting in 2020, I decided that New Hampshire would be the best place for me. Since there’s not much option to keep living in a camper in New England, I decided to start looking for property (again). It was a difficult decision because I was living by the water in central Florida, rent free, with free access to a boat and seaplane. That was November 2020. I packed up my home and left Florida, and was in NH for Thanksgiving.

By March 2021, I had selected and purchased the house of my dreams, in the perfect location.

I chose Weare because of it’s history, central location, and the general LFOD attitude that you don’t see in some of the other towns. Once I decided on Weare, I really liked the idea of being on John Stark Highway for easy access, and to honor the General. I figured South Weare was ideal to be closer to the city.

As soon as I chose the perfect location, there just happened to be a beautifully renovated colonial house from the 1700’s… for sale. I have no idea how this stayed on the market for over a year, but once I found it I made an offer asap. The closing process felt long and treacherous, but was finalized on March 4, 2021.

Since then, I have been working tirelessly on creating a great spot to share with the community. I’m still not quite sure what that looks like yet, but I’m still putting most of my time and money into creating it.

We’ve hosted community markets, classes on tech, gardening, homeschool clubs, crypto and metal debates, and generally building independence and confidence.

I’m open to all ideas, so I’d like for you to imagine this being your place and what you think would work best.
